Long day on a tough road
Oh my shattered nerves! I'm so grateful for the 4 x 4 course I did in JHB. I learnt just how incredibly capable our vehicle is. The same can't be said for the nervous passenger. I think that our navigation system, Tracks 4 Africa, took us on the '4 x 4 offroad adventurer' route option today. The first muddy patch was a foreboding of the tough day ahead.
PARENTAL WARNING: Dad, Mom, scary content alert, watch with your eyes closed.
When I went through the dashcam footage I thought: 'you sissie!'. But what the camera doesn't give you is depth perception and the extent that the car rolls because the camera rolls with the car. In this video, the ruts on the side of the road are thigh to waist high on me. The car sliding into there would be a major drama - also no trees to use as an anchor for the winch. Sometimes we both need to walk the route 1st or get out and assist with navigation. And yet you see local taxis managing the road (reinforcing the 'sissie' possibility).
Progress was extremely slow, made evident when we were overtaken by a bicycle. Definitely the toughest day & toughest road we've traveled so far. Is that Murphy I hear chuckling in the background...?
Sheesh. Is that a main road through Africa? Wow. You were dressed to kill too, Kerin. Off to a party? 😂 Looks very scary wherever you were. Do take care?
ReplyDeleteThat was 1 of 2 roads to Lichinga. Not sure if the other road was better or worse? I'm quite happy not knowing the answer to that, thank you.
